Originally written during the Standing Rock Occupation against the DAPL pipeline, Poranguí’s lyrics speak to the mysterious healing power of love that arises even in the face of the ongoing genocide and war waged upon our indigenous relatives by the US Government and transnational corporations largely unseen to most of the world still today. Against a backdrop of blazing Brazilian maracatu percussion and aboriginal didgeridoo, the song invokes the sacred responsibility we all carry as two-leggeds with the gift of these incredible hands capable of creating unimaginable beauty or total destruction. Standing rooted as warriors of unflinching love, we are reminded that even in the face of impossible odds, stewarding all of life is the only way forward, for we are “mending the hoop and restoring the love.”
